Works for Me Wednesday: Baking Powder

Yes, you can make your own baking powder. Here's how:

2 parts cream of tartar
1 part baking soda
Blend well. It's good to play with the proportions a little, this way is a little more potent than store bought, but I like it that way.

I like having one less thing to buy from the store, especially since I buy baking soda by the ten-pound bag. Also, cream of tartar activates the baking soda just like lemon juice or vinegar--but not in liquid form--that's how baking powder makes things rise. The thing is, that having the two combined means that the baking soda can lose its effect over time, so I like keeping the two separate until I need them. Works for me!
