WFMW-Trying New Fats

For me, a great way to increase my intake of healthy fats, and add flavor to my food to boot, has been to get creative and replace mayonnaise.

I find that if I want something creamy and largely lacking in flavor (just like mayo!) on a sandwich, for example, a little avocado really does the trick--even in heated sandwiches. If I want more flavor and protein, with less fat overall, hummus is the way to go. And if I want flavor and protein, but want to be really decadent at the same time, cream cheese (low fat or otherwise) is a great option.

While I've only tried these things spread on bread for sandwiches, I'm really looking forward to trying them mixed into tuna, egg, and chicken salads some time, and maybe even Waldorf salad. I also think a little cream cheese would do really well to add some richness to soup.

And that's what works for me! Check out more great tips and tricks for Works For Me Wednesday at We Are THAT Family!

Mmmm! I do not like mayonnaise at all, so all of these substitutes sound great! I will definitely have to try the avocado.

I actually like mayo, but the idea of trying avocado sounds delicious! I'm definitely going to spread some on a future sandwich...assuming I can find an avocado cheaper than $2, LOL! (I guess they are seasonal.)

Mayo's good, but avocado sounds better! Good ideas. Happy WFMW!
